Fire Prevention

What:  Candle Stubs.
Origin/Usage:  Remnants of many a dinner party, saved in a ziploc bag in my outdoor pack.

Why kept:  Maybe I'll get lost in the woods and need to light a fire to survive:  I Might Need Them.   They were in my backpack, so Out Of Sight, Out of Mind, and (kind of)  Storage Boxes Are Evil.  
How long kept: At least 10 years.
Destination:  Trash.

Confession:  Next time I go hiking, I can bring a fresher incendiary technology.   At that time, will also replace the packages of kleenex and almost done roll of toilet paper I removed from the pack.   They haven't been so useful sitting in that pack up in the top of my closet.
