  1. Oh, I wish that I had these! I've loved repurposing jars for rice, beans, nuts and other cabinet staples. Walnuts are pretty in an old almond butter jar.

That said, heaven knows what is in the seals of the jar lids, which seem to take on the scent of whatever was in the jar. If spicy (i.e. salsa), forget about reusing that jar.

Applesauce, mayo and almond butter jars all work fine for this. Baby food? I might guess yes.

(I wonder if you can buy plain metal caps for jars anywhere?)

  2. That sooo reminds me of this chapter in Bill Bryson's book The Thunderbolt Kid when he talks about the "toity jar" his mom used to keep under the sink for him to pee in if he had to go when they were in a rush to get out of the house. . . and then one day a jar he distinctly knew he had peed at one time or another in showed up on the kitchen table at dinner time with canned peaches in it. . . LMAO! It is very funny if you hear him tell the story! XOXOXO, "Q"

  3. LMAO and, um, eew.

I'm sure that his mom's accurate position was that the jars were sterilized in the canning process...but, eew.
